The Organizer is a vivid example of the commedia al'italiana genre and style, which portrays social problems with satire and dark comedy. Actor Marcello Mastroianni is "most proud" of the threadbare intellectual professor he plays in this "stupendous" film. Like a vagabond on the road, with his clarinet, he falls in with a bunch of dignified, generous Turin textile workers who are exploited by their bosses. Mastroianni's professor embraces grand ideas of humanity in harmony: he rallies the workers with a Shakespearean speech, and is willing to risk all for his beliefs. With Annie Giradot.
