Nevenka Fernández was 23 years-old when she started working at the City Council of Ponferrada, a small Spanish city. She was young, beautiful, and full of dreams. But the mayor, accustomed to exercising his power, was immediately infatuated with her. Instead of putting up with it, Nevenka stood up and faced her entire city, the media, and the public opinion of a whole country who chose to pigeonhole her and spoke of her as a calculating exploiter, questioning her intimate life and behavior and undermining her dignity. I Am Nevenka is told from the perspective of a real woman who marked a turning point in the history of Spain and is considered the first #MeToo case in the country. Icíar Bollaín, one of Spain’s most talented filmmakers whose last film, Maixabel, took home three Goya Awards and was one of the year’s biggest arthouse hits, comes back with I Am Nevenka, a true story about sexual harassment, consent, and how a person's will can be undermined and destroyed.
