Stephen Curry: Underrated
Stephen Curry is one of the most influential, dynamic, and unexpected players in the history of basketball. Intimate cinematic video, archival footage, and on-camera interviews reveal Curry’s rise from an undersized college player to a four-time NBA champion.
If the modern NBA has a figurehead for both its current style of play and brand of political activism, it is Stephen Curry. However, Curry's ascendency was far from preordained. Despite being the son of NBA player Dell Curry, Stephen was little recruited coming out of high school due to his slight frame. He committed to Davidson College, where he quickly became a prolific scorer, eventually setting the school record for points, while also leading his teams to two NCAA tournament appearances, including a shocking run to the Elite Eight in 2008. Curry then entered the NBA as the eighth overall pick by the Golden State Warriors. Despite recurring ankle injuries early in his career, Curry soon became one of the league's most lethal shooters, particularly from behind the three-point arch. Along with fellow Splash Brother Klay Thompson, Curry led the Warriors to four straight NBA Finals appearances, winning three championships, adding a fourth last year, and establishing a modern-era dynasty. In this fascinating documentary, director Peter Nicks blends intimate cinéma vérité archival footage with on-camera interviews to chart Curry's meteoric rise from undersized college recruit to global icon.
