A married couple and their son leave busy Copenhagen behind for some much-needed rest and relaxation in Sweden’s vast forests. But across the lake from their cabin, they happen to spot a family that looks much like their own in this twisty metaphysical thriller.
A Danish couple with a not-so-great relationship packs up their life and child, leaving the bustling city with the hope of a better future in the remote forests of Sweden. What could possibly go wrong? Stine (Marie Bach Hansen) and Teit (Mikkel Boe Følsgaard) hope to reignite the spark within themselves—and for each other—by podcasting their family adventure of inventing a creative new life in the woods. Things begin to go sideways when they meet the angry couple who have been living on the other side of the lake. These strangers are identical to Stine and Teit except for one crucial difference: their son has gone missing. The feature-length debut of writer/director Karoline Lyngbye, Superposition is an amber-hued, symmetry-loving doppelgänger thriller that takes a common idea to unexpectedly weird places. If the Instagram-worthy homesteading life has been calling you, you might think twice after seeing this film.
