Where Is Anne Frank
The latest animated knockout from director Ari Folman (Waltz with Bashir, The Congress) reimagines one of the world’s most popular diaries from the perspective of her imaginary friend, Kitty, in this fanciful adaptation for young adults.
Where is Anne Frank breathes new life into a teenager’s tragic story that changed the world. On a stormy night in Amsterdam a year from now, a bolt of lightning strikes the diary in the Anne Frank Museum. Kitty, the imaginary friend Anne writes to in her diary, is ripped from the pages of the past and transported into the modern world. Believing Anne must still be alive, Kitty sets out on a journey to find out what became of her dear friend. In her quest to evade the police who believe she has stolen Anne’s diary, she meets a friend who is hiding 300 refugees in an abandoned building while they await asylum. Toggling back between the pages of Anne’s diary and contemporary Kitty’s struggle with what happened to her friend, Kitty sparks a social justice movement to protect the refugees in the name of “Never Again.” The timely film from Waltz with Bashir director Ari Folman is a lusciously animated fairytale that brings Anne’s story to a new generation.
