CHILDHOOD CHARACTERS COME TO LIFE AT SIFF 2014

SEATTLE -- May 23, 2014 -- This weekend at the Seattle International Film Festival, two artists who bring beloved children's television characters to life will appear at the screenings of two incredible documentaries. Whether you believe that friendship is magic or still know how to get to Sesame Street, this weekend's events will enchant and inspire.

 On Saturday, May 24, voice actor Ashleigh Ball and director Brent Hodge will appear at the screening of the documentary A Brony Tale. A "brony" is a male aged 18 - 30 who loves the animated children's series "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic," which features a cast of characters based on the childhood toy My Little Pony. Ball, who voices the characters Rainbow Dash and Applejack on the series, appears in this charming doc, which charts the rise of brony culture and culminates in the costume-filled BronyCon. Many bronies are visibly moved as they talk about their commitment to celebrating friendship and kindness, unapologetically claiming that, "bronies have changed the definition of masculinity." 

On Sunday, May 25, legendary puppeteer Caroll Spinney, along with directors Dave LaMattina and Chad Walker and a special guest, will appear at the screening of the documentary I Am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney Story. For over 40 years, Spinney has brought the characters Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch to life on the iconic public television show "Sesame Street," as well as in films and at events all around the world. Through deeply personal interviews and never-before-seen home videos, the film paints a beautiful, accomplished, and moving portrait of Caroll Spinney, the warm-hearted puppeteer who imbued Jim Henson's Muppets with his heart and soul. And as the yellow feathers give way to grey hair, it is the man, not the Muppet, who will teach us the greatest lesson of all - how to love unconditionally.
