SEATTLE -- November 4, 2014 -- On November 13 - 20, SIFF presents Cinema Italian Style, its sixth annual celebration of the best in current Italian films. The eight-day event will feature more than 20 extraordinary features, documentaries, and short films with some of the biggest names in Italian cinema today.
Cinema Italian Style 2014 includes established directors like Bernardo Bertolucci (with a stunning new restoration of The Conformist) and Paolo Virzí (Human Capital, Italy's Oscar® submission), alongside bright new talents Pierfrancesco Diliberto (David di Donatello-winning The Mafia Kills Only in Summer) and Sydney Sibilia (Italian Golden Globe-winning I Can Quit Whenever I Want).
Opening Night presents the warm and funny family drama Noi 4 from director Francesco Bruni, who is scheduled to attend. Following the screening, head to the Opening Night Party in the Fireside Room at the Sorrento Hotel, with complimentary hors d'oeuvres by The Hunt Club and Bocelli Family Wines presented by August Wine Group.
Closing Night features the band-of-outsiders comedy A Small Southern Enterprise from director Rocco Papaleo. After the film, cap off the week of Italian cinema at the Closing Night party at Osteria La Spiga on Capitol Hill, with complimentary hors d'oeuvres, Bocelli Family Wines presented by August Wine Group, espresso by Caffe Umbria, and gelato by Gelatiamo.
Six guests will travel to Seattle to attend Cinema Italian Style and connect with film audiences: Francesco Bruni (Noi 4 - Opening Night Film on Nov 13, repeated Nov 16), Alessandro Rossetto (Small Homeland on Nov 15), Pierfrancesco Diliberto AKA Pif (The Mafia Kills Only in Summer on Nov 16), Paolo Virzí (Human Capital on Nov 17), Francesco Munzi (Black Souls on Nov 18), and Agostino Ferrente (Beautiful Things on Nov 19).
Bookended by two fabulous parties and with special guests in attendance, the week promises to be una settimana di film straordinario!
"Cinema Italian Style gets more exciting every year - we've gone all out for 2014," says Carl Spence, SIFF Artistic Director. "The selected films are a really good mix of comedy and drama. I'm especially excited about the new restoration of the Bertolucci classic The Conformist. Most of the films are award winners or were big hits with Italian audiences; I'm pleased that Seattle audiences will have a chance to see them."
