Call for entries for shorts and feature-length films
SEATTLE -- September 2016 -- The 43rd annual Seattle International Film Festival (May 18 - June 11, 2017) is now accepting submissions of live action and animated features, documentaries, and short films.
The largest and most highly attended film festival in the United States, SIFF presents over 250 features/documentary films and 150 short films to an audience of more than 150,000 every year. The Festival is consistently cited as one of the best "audience festivals" in the world, and Seattle's love for film (Seattleites see more movies per capita than any other city in the nation) makes the city the most appropriate setting for new films to be seen, tested, and celebrated by everyone - fan and filmmaker alike.
SIFF is recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as a Qualifying Festival in all short film categories. Films submitted to the Seattle International Film Festival are reviewed by a team of more than 20 film programmers. The Festival has significant sections devoted to documentaries (75 in 2016), world cinema (85 countries represented in 2016), American cinema (47 features and 38 documentaries in 2016), along with all other genres including animation, experimental, and late-night, with more than 70 percent of the films made by first- and second-time filmmakers. Each year the Seattle International Film Festival gives out the Golden Space Needle Audience Awards for Best Film, Best Documentary Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Short Film, and the Lena Sharpe Award (an audience award given to the film by a woman director that receives the most votes in our Golden Space Needle balloting).
In addition, we sponsor seven internationally juried awards, awarding over $32,000 in cash prizes: Official Competition, New Directors Competition, New American Cinema Competition, Ibero-American Cinema Competition, Documentary Film Competition, and Short Film.
