Second annual DocFest to close with FREEDOM ON FIRE at SIFF Cinema Uptown October 13

SEATTLE – SIFF’s second annual DocFest will close on Thursday, October 13 with director Evgeny Afineevsky presenting his newest film Freedom on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom, a behind the headlines account of the Ukrainian people’s resistance and resilience during the 2022 Russian invasion. With less than 6 months of production, the last shot completed in August just weeks before its World Premiere at the Venice Film Festival in early September, the film is an urgent, first hand account of the war in Ukraine and the strength of the Ukrainian people.

“We’re thrilled to be closing DocFest with this searing, incredibly timely look at what is happening in Ukraine right now” says Stan Shields, SIFF’s Programming Manager. “Having director Evgeny Afineevsky here in Seattle to present the film, and engage with the audience in a post-screening Q&A, is what DocFest is about - providing cinema experiences that are like no other, giving us an insight into the world around us.”

Tickets for the screening are still available. $9 for SIFF members / $14 for non-members.
