What The Femme!: Vamps
Explore the history of 'vamps' from silent film sexuality to film noir's femme fatales to otherworldly vampires and succubi with WTF Programmer Colleen O'Holleran
February 29, 2020
In the early days of cinema, the term, "vamp," was interchangeable with "femme fatale" - referring to women marked as excessively sexual who step outside of socially acceptable behavior to achieve their goals. This class will look at the vamp archetype in cinema, investigating how the role of the femme fatale is woven through film noir as well as through otherwordly characters like vampires and succubi in genre films. From Theda Bara in the silent film era to Karyn Kusama's underappreciated Jennifer's Body, join WTFemme! to explore the history of Vamps.
