Ryota Miyagi is the point guard of Kanagawa’s Shohoku High School basketball team. He's been playing his whole life with the shadow of his brother's death looming over him, hoping to win the love of his now-distant mother. Now, it's the championship game, the other team is up by a ton, and he's going to need his teammates to win. Snapping back and forth between beautiful, somber 2D slice-of-life sequences and striking, fluid, exhilarating CG basketball action, The First Slam Dunk is an absolute knockout from first-time director (and manga legend) Takehiko Inoue, who takes his beloved 90s series and condenses everything special about it into a single game of basketball. There is not another sports movie like this. No prior knowledge of Slam Dunk (or basketball) needed!
